It’s easy to get wrapped up in life. Sometimes, we simply overextend ourselves with too many busy actives. Other times, clutter creeps in piece by piece over the years and begins to bog us down. Either way, the end result for many is simply exhaustion.
- Physically exhausted at trying to keep up a breakneck pace in the modern world…
- Emotionally exhausted as we are assaulted daily with horrific news around the world…
- Spiritually exhausted as we try to put on the happy face and do our best to spend a little time with Jesus…
Life can be a frustrating mess. We’re called as Christians to live the trumphant life, yet we can barely find the energy to attend church once a week. Life has got us so tangled up in a knot that there’s simply no room left for anything else. Sometimes it’s even a struggle to survive. What’s wrong with us?
Simply put, perhaps our focus is off. After all, our culture demands so much of us that it’s easy to let our focus drift towards the temporal things in a desperate bid to simply survive. Yet, what did the first-century christians do? Whether things were easy or difficult, they went against the cultural norm and focused more of their life on Jesus!
So where’s the hope for us? How do you start to get your focus back on Christ, and begin to clear out the clutter life has thrown at you? Stir up your hunger. Remember those times where God came close to you. Remember what he has done for you, what it felt like to meet him face to face… to be in His presence. Begin to stir up that hunger for Him again.
I confess, I need him just as much as anyone else. Maybe more. Without Him my life feels dry, overwhelming and cluttered. So I’ve been calling out to Him over and over… day after day… I’ve made my anthem “Oh to be like You, give all I have just to know you!” Even though He seems far away and I wonder if I can ever get close to Him again, I remember His word and stand firm on His promise:
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” Matthew 5:6
“For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matthew 7:7
What promises those are! If you are hungering for righteousness, HE WILL FILL YOU! If you are seeking God, YOU WILL FIND HIM! HE PROMISED IT. Jesus come and fill us again!!!
Don’t get discouraged. Remember. Keep pressing in, keep stirring up your hunger and running after God. Pray more. Read more. Spend time pressing into His presence and get your focus back on what really matters: Jesus.
He will come down and fill you again.
Jesus we need you!!
